USA SWIMMING LEARN
USA Swimming LEARN is the online education hub for all members of USA Swimming! LEARN stand for Leadership Education And Resource Network. USA Swimming LEARN provides multi-dimensional educational and resource opportunities for athletes, coaches, parents, and officials at all levels of swimming. The goal of LEARN is to provide a consistent and quality learning experience across multiple disciplines for all USA Swimming members in order to develop new skills and enhance their experience inside and out of the pool.
START THE TRAINING
To complete Athlete Protection Training: SafeSportTM Trained course, please follow these directions:
- Enter your first name, last name, and birthday. Make sure to use the name on your USA Swimming Registration. Click the Search button.
- When the system finds you, click on "CONTINUE" to access the LEARN site.
- You must take the course(s) within the "Athlete Protection Training" module to complete the requirement.
- Once you have completed your courses, your membership record will update within 24 hours with a new APT expiration date.
- Your APT will expire 12 months after you complete the certificate.
ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING REQUIREMENT
The APT requirement has changed. Beginning February 4, 2019, APT education on LEARN will incorporate the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s training courses in a four-year training cycle.
- The first year, you must take the SafeSportTM Trained 90-minute core course.
- To renew, you must take the applicable Refresher course.
- Once you have completed the required course, your membership record will update with a new APT expiration date within 24 hours.
- Your APT will expire 12 months from the date you complete SafeSportTM course.
What is the difference between the SafeSport™ Trained Core course and the SafeSport Training for for Adult Athletes’? Does the course for Safe Sport Training for Adult Athletes meet the APT educational requirement for 18+ swimmers?
The curriculum of those two courses is quite different. Both courses are developed by the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
The SafeSport™ Trained Core course is the requirement and covers the key topics that the congressional mandate said that youth sport organizations need to educate about. Athletes ages 18 and older are required to take this course due to their potential contact with minor athletes.
The SafeSport Training for Adult Athlete course is an optional course that covers the specific areas of boundaries and power dynamics between adult athletes and adult coaches.
How often do athletes ages 12-17 need to take the "USA Swimming Safe Sport for Athletes” course?
The athletes course (ages 12+) “USA Swimming Safe Sport for Athletes” will expire from the LEARN dashboard after 18 months. Athletes (ages 12+) will need to take this course again when the club is planning to renew their Safe Sport Club Recognition status.
Athletes age 18+ are still required to take the SafeSport™ Trained core course or "Refresher 1, Refresher 2, or Refresher 3," yearly to meet membership requirements.

How often do parents need to take the “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport” course?
The parents course “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport” will expire from the LEARN dashboard after 18 months. Parents will need to take this course again when the club is planning to renew their Safe Sport Club Recognition status.
I get a "No Results Found" message when I enter my information. What does that mean?
- You may have a typo in your name or birthday. Double check and resubmit.
- If everything is correct, and you are or have ever been a member of USA Swimming, it is possible there is a typo in your membership information in the USA Swimming database. Contact your LSC registrar.
- You have never been registered with USA Swimming. You must join through your LSC. New members will be required to have your application form and payment processed by your LSC Registrar before you can sign in to complete the course.
Will I receive credit for this course?
Yes, if you have a member account. If you create a non-member account, you will not receive credit for the courses you take.
How long is the Athlete Protection Training?
The SafeSport™ Trained core course will take you about 90 minutes. "Refresher" will take about 35 minutes. You may stop the course at any time and pick up where you left off the next time you log in.
